Dr. Hiva Panahi is a contemporary independent academic &scholar, writer, poet, translator, of Kurdish descent, she was a fellow at the Mitterrand Foundation. She holds a Ph.D., in Political Social Sciences focusing on political sociology from Panteion University, Greece. As an author and poet, she has been distinguished internationally for her contribution to Classic Studies several times, her poetry included in various anthologies as well as Karen Van Dyke's Austerity Measures at NYRB.

The department of classics of the University Of Columbia has chosen three poems of the young Kurdish writer Dr. Hiva Panahi for new Geek –English edition of the poetry anthology Austerity Measures; The New Greek Poetry, to be published in spring 2016.
The poems are as follows: Companion 1996 Kurdistan, The Breath of the Olive Tree,2006, Athens, A Man of Ashes, 2006, Athens

Μικρές Γκρίνιες Μιας Γυναίκας, Χίβα Παναχί
Μάζεψα τα δάχτυλα μου ώστε
να μπορέσω να γράψω λίγες λέξεις. Στο νου μου εικόνες βουβές, εικόνες φωνές και
εικόνες ανθρώπων. Πολλές φορές μέσα σε κάποια ξέχασα την ύπαρξη μου. Ξέχασα τα
πλανήματα μου και κοίλας δεν θυμάμαι τίποτα. Μάζεψα τα δάχτυλα μου να μην αγγίξουν
ή καλύτερα να αγγίξουν αργότερα άλλη μέρα, άλλη στιγμή. Το βάρος του αγγίγματος θα έμενε πάνω τους και
δεν τα αντέχουν. Κάνει κρύο και βρέχει δεν αντέχουν μου λέει μια φωνή και μια φωνή
με αγκαλιάζει. Αυτή η άγια φωνή την ξέρω και δεν ήθελα να την αγγίξω. Μαζεύω τα
δάχτυλα μου και φεύγω. Δεν θέλω να δω την φωνή της αφού δεν την είχα ποτέ. Μάζεψα
τα δάχτυλα μου για να φύγω ….
